Life and work under the Nazi dictatorship
Many people supported the Nazi dictatorship and benefitted as a result. Those in authority often showed particular enthusiasm. Others were indifferent or looked the other way. Knowledge of the crimes spread quickly, but only a few individuals helped the persecuted. The employees in the Landhaus kept the Nazi machinery running. The criminal processes did not remain hidden from them.
The personal narratives presented in this room – told by employees of the Landhaus – help us to grasp National Socialism as a system that knew no bystanders. They create awareness for the fact that our actions have effects. They remind us how fragile our democratic society is.
