Department of South Tyrol, the European Region and External Relations
Tasks
The Tyrolean administration is both organisationally and substantively well equipped to address the focal areas of South Tyrol, the European region and external relations. Accordingly, the Office of the Tyrolean Regional Government has the necessary administrative structures and expertise to handle all matters of external affairs relevant to Tyrol.
The scope of responsibilities is highly diverse and comprises many interconnected fields of specialty. This results in numerous points of contact with cross-border and European issues for various departments within the Office. In this context, the Department of External Relations plays a key role, serving as the central hub for European and international relations and affairs.
Official Responsibilities
- Relations with the European Union and the Council of Europe and their regional bodies (such as the European Committee of the Regions and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe), as well as other European or international organisations
- Representation of the European Region Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino to the EU in Brussels
- Office of the European Region Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino in Bolzano
- South Tyrolean affairs and the European Region Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino
- Matters relating to European regional organisations, cross-border and interregional cooperation (e.g. EU Strategy for the Alpine region) and the Arge Alp coordination office
- Provision of information on European integration
- Support for EU-funded projects
- Development cooperation
Objectives
- Effective policy consulting through access to a wide range of information channels and the analytical processing of complex information flows
- Maintenance and expansion of a network of relationships with key stakeholders within the European Union, other Alpine regions and beyond
- Development of a coherent Tyrolean European and neighbourhood policy through the coordination and alignment of individual points of view with Tyrolean interest groups
- Coordinated representation of Tyrol’s specific interests in European structures and active influence on opinion-forming and decision-making processes
- Implementation of the European Region Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino as a model for peaceful and future-oriented regional development, particularly through concrete joint cross-border projects that benefit citizens
- Strengthening of relations between the partner regions of the European Region by promoting broad-based contacts at all levels
- Europeanisation of the region: making Europe accessible to Tyroleans and Tyrol well-known within Europe
- Involving citizens in the European integration process by communicating its various opportunities through objective and proactive European informational activities
