Euregios
The Region of Tyrol thinks and acts not only regionally, but also euro-regionally
The flagship project of the Region of Tyrol’s cross-border cooperation is the European Region Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino. The ‘Euregio’ was founded on 14 June 2011 at Castel Thun as a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation. Its aim is to overcome the borders between the three regions through joint collaboration. The focus is on the principle of unity in diversity and peaceful coexistence. The cross-border projects and initiatives aim to improve the quality of life for citizens, advance the European integration process and break down both material and immaterial borders.
Further information on the history, structure, objectives and concrete projects of the European Region can be found here.
In addition, the Region of Tyrol also supports several Euregios that connect individual Tyrolean districts and territories with Bavarian partners:
- The European Region Inntal is a private-law association linking the districts of Kufstein and Kitzbühel with the Bavarian districts of Rosenheim and Traunstein as well as the city of Rosenheim.
- The European Region Schwaz / Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen / Miesbach (SBM) is an association connecting the district of Schwaz with the Bavarian districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach for cross-border cooperation.
- The European Region via salina is a registered association under German law, encompassing the Allgäu, Vorarlberg and the Tyrolean Außerfern territory.
- The European Region Zugspitze-Wetterstein-Karwendel (ZWK) is an association for cross-border cooperation between the Bavarian district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Außerfern and the Seefeld Plateau.
