Committee of the Regions
Representing the interests of regions and municipalities in the EU
The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) was established by the Treaty of Maastricht to represent the interests of regions and municipalities at European level. Since its first plenary session in March 1994, the CoR has served as the voice of local and regional authorities in the European Union. The CoR ensures that the levels of government closest to the citizens can express their views on all relevant EU legislative proposals.
The CoR has 329 members from across the EU. Tyrol is represented by Governor Anton Mattle and President of the Tyrolean Landtag Sonja Ledl-Rossmann. The opinions adopted during plenary sessions are prepared by thematic commissions.
On the occasion of the CoR’s 25th anniversary, the Conference of Governors of Austria adopted a political declaration emphasising the importance of the CoR for Austria’s regions and municipalities.
