This year, the second ever “Europe Direct Movie Night”, organised by Europe Direct Tyrol and the Region of Tyrol, took place as part of the activities marking Europe Day (9 May).
The animated film by Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis, which received, among other honours, an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 2025, is one of the five films nominated for the 2025 LUX Audience Award.
The LUX Audience Award has been organised since 2020 by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in cooperation with the European Commission and the Europa Cinemas network. It was originally launched by the European Parliament in 2007, and this year’s award ceremony took place on 29 April 2025 in Brussels. The aim of the LUX Award is to promote the diversity of European cinema and to make social issues with a clear link to EU values accessible to a wide audience.
On the occasion of Austria’s 30 years of membership of the European Union, Europe Direct and the Region of Tyrol seek, among other initiatives such as the Europe Direct Movie Night, to highlight through the medium of film the importance of shared European values in our society today — such as freedom, democracy and equality.
