Civil engineers are entiteled to appoint another licence holder to be their substitute in case of being prevented.
In cases of expected longer-term absence, civil engineers are obliged to appoint another licence holder to be their substitute.
If the substitution lasts more than one year, the substituted person must request approval from the Chamber of Civil engineers. If she/he fails to request approval, the Chamber of Civil engineers must issue an official decision revoking the professional licence of the substituted person.

The appointment of a substitute must be reported to the Chamber of Architects and Engineering Consultants without delay.

- If the requesting party has no place of residence in Austria: the Chamber of Civil engineers ( → zt ) 5 of her/his choice
