Europe in the Heart of Innsbruck: Vibrant Europe Day Celebration at Boznerplatz

On 5 May 2026, EuropeDirect celebrated Europe Day

On the occasion of Europe Day on 9 May, the newly reopened Boznerplatz in Innsbruck became the central meeting point dedicated to Europe for the very first time this year. Already on Tuesday, 5 May, the europacafé attracted numerous visitors under the motto “Coffee connects. So does Europe.” Together with the InfoEck der Generationen, Europe Direct Tirol provided information throughout the day about key European Union programmes, opportunities and services, creating an open space for dialogue, exchange and personal encounters.

Political representatives also took the opportunity to engage directly with the public: Member of the European Parliament Sophia Kircher, Regional Councillor Eva Pawlata, Regional Councillor René Zumtobel and Director General Herbert Forster visited the europacafé and were available to answer questions.

A special highlight was the visit of a sixth-grade class from the Accredited European School Tyrol (AES Tyrol) at Campus AGI. The students asked MEP Sophia Kircher numerous questions about her work in the European Parliament and gained exciting insights into political life at the European level. The group was accompanied by Headmistress Rosmarie Knoflach and Helmuth Aigner, who deserve special thanks for their commitment to European educational work.

In the evening, Europe Day continued with the “Europe Direct Movie Night”. With free admission, the award-winning film “A Simple Accident” was screened at Cineplexx Innsbruck, addressing key European values such as freedom of expression and the rule of law.

The europacafé will return to Innsbruck again next year, inviting visitors to exchange ideas about Europe over a delicious cup of coffee and engage in meaningful conversations.
