EuregioBrusselsSchool 2026:

25 students explored the EU and NATO

25 Students from Euregio Universities Get Behind the Scenes in Brussels – 2026 Focus on Digitalisation and Global Affairs – 2027 Edition in the Works

BRUSSELS (Euregio). On 26 June, 25 students from the Universities of Innsbruck, Bolzano and Trento returned from Brussels with a wealth of new knowledge, experiences and insights into the European Union. Over the course of five days, they took part in the intensive EuregioBrusselsSchool programme, organised once again in 2026 by the Brussels Representation of the Euregio Tyrol–South Tyrol–Trentino. Among other activities, the participants gained first-hand insights into the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of the European Union and the European Committee of the Regions.

Focus: The EU in the World

A highlight of this year's programme was the students' first-ever visit to NATO Headquarters in Brussels, in line with the overarching theme “The Role of the EU in the World.” As the global political and economic landscape continues to evolve rapidly, both the European Union and NATO, together with their member states, are facing crucial strategic challenges. The Euregio students had the opportunity to discuss these issues not only with NATO representatives but also with officials from the European External Action Service.

Other key topics of the 2026 programme included the latest developments in digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as EU media communication. As part of the programme, several participants produced and published a daily video on the Euregio's social media channels. Throughout the week, the specific role of regions within the European Union also emerged as an important cross-cutting theme.

The students agreed that the programme had been an enriching learning experience. Amy Sanchez Rivera, a student at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, explained: “I joined the EuregioBrusselsSchool to learn more about the relationship between the Euregio and the European Union.” Stefano Baldi from the University of Trento said he appreciated “the opportunity to get to know the European institutions and better understand how they work and influence our lives.” Romana Nager from the University of Innsbruck added: “I applied for the EuregioBrusselsSchool because I wanted to gain inspiration from the work of regional representations at the European Union and learn more about future career opportunities.”

The programme concluded with a certificate award ceremony led by the directors of the Euregio Brussels Representation: Vesna Caminades (South Tyrol), Katharina Lonardi (Trentino) and Richard Seeber (Tyrol).

Information on the 2027 edition of the EuregioBrusselsSchool will be available at the beginning of next year on the Euregio website and through the communication channels of the Euregio regions and partner universities.
