How can Europe be presented in a new, experience-based way? Through movement, socialising and a good film. Under the slogan “Europe on the Move”, Europe Direct Tyrol – the European Information Centre for the Province of Tyrol – together with the Cubic association and in cooperation with the respective local authorities, is hosting two free EU Bike Cinema evenings in Jenbach and Wörgl. The events will take place on 3 September in Jenbach and on 4 September in Wörgl, combining information, sustainable mobility and culture into a special communal experience.
The ‘Radlkino’ brings sustainable energy to life: the electricity for the film screening is generated by visitors pedalling themselves. This demonstrates how physical activity, climate protection and collective commitment work together – values that the European Union also pursues through its commitment to sustainable mobility, climate protection and a sustainable mobility transition.
The event takes place in the run-up to European Mobility Week, which every year invites local authorities and citizens to try out climate-friendly modes of transport and rethink public spaces. With the EU Bike Cinema, Europe Direct Tyrol, together with the participating local authorities, is demonstrating that sustainable mobility not only makes an important contribution to climate protection, but also brings people together and strengthens the community. At the same time, the project highlights the importance of exercise and sport – issues that are of particular importance to the European Commission and are intended to motivate young people to adopt an active lifestyle.
The supporting programme begins at 3.00 pm with the ‘Europacafé’: ‘Coffee connects, so does Europe’. Coffee will be served from a lovingly converted Piaggio Ape, encouraging conversation – very much in the spirit of the European idea of bringing people together. Alongside information about what Europe Direct Tyrol has to offer, the programme will feature a small play and face-painting corner for children.
At 8.00 pm, the Radlkino screening of the animated film “Flow” begins; the film has won numerous international awards, including an Oscar and the LUX Film Prize. The film captivates audiences with its extraordinary visual style and its universal story of solidarity, courage and overcoming challenges together. With no dialogue at all, ‘Flow’ tells a moving story that connects people of all generations, making it a perfect fit for the idea of an open and diverse Europe.
