Please note: It is not possible to travel through Tyrol – for example, on the way from Germany to Italy. The police are carrying out checks – during these, you must provide proof of your destination (such as booking confirmations). The A 13 Brenner motorway is closed to all traffic between the Schönberg toll station and the Brenner Pass.

Important: Coaches wishing merely to pass through Tyrol must take a wide detour.
What counts as destination or source traffic?
Destination or source traffic applies if your destination or point of departure is verifiably located in the Tyrolean Wipptal, Gschnitztal, Navistal, Obernbergtal, Schmirntal or Valsertal valleys – for example, your place of residence, workplace, accommodation or delivery destination. The police are carrying out checks – during these, you must provide credible proof of your destination (such as a booking confirmation for your accommodation).
How can I prove my destination during police checks?
For example, by means of booking confirmations, employer confirmations, appointment confirmations or delivery documents. Police checks will be carried out.
What happens if I can’t provide proof of my destination?
You will then be prevented from continuing your journey and sent back. Please therefore bring appropriate supporting documents with you.
I’m on holiday in the Tyrolean Wipptal, Gschnitztal, Navistal, Obernbergtal, Schmirntal or Valsertal – can I get around the region by car?
Yes. However, traffic delays are expected on 30 May 2026. It is therefore recommended that you avoid non-essential journeys on 30 May 2026. Alternatively, use public transport.
Destination or source traffic may use the secondary road network. This applies if you can prove that your destination or point of departure is located in the Tyrolean Wipptal, Gschnitztal, Navistal, Obernbergtal, Schmirntal or Valsertal – for example, your place of residence, workplace, accommodation or delivery address. The police are carrying out checks – during these, you must provide credible proof of your destination.
Important: The A 13 Brenner motorway will be closed to all traffic on 30 May 2026.
Can I cycle in the Tyrolean Wipptal, Gschnitztal, Navistal, Obernbergtal, Schmirntal or Valsertal valleys?
Yes. However, for safety reasons, cycling will be prohibited on 30 May 2026 between 11 am and 7 pm on the B 182 Brenner road, on the section between Stefansbrücke and the Schönberg slip road in the Stubai Valley (regardless of whether this is destination/source traffic or through traffic). Alternative routes include, in particular, the L 38 Ellbögener road and the Stubai Cycle Route 19.
Do the restrictions also apply to motorcycles?
Yes. What matters is the closure or traffic regulation in force, not whether the vehicle is a car or a motorcycle.
Do the rules also apply to electric vehicles?
Yes. The traffic measures apply regardless of how the vehicle is powered.
Do the rules also apply to motorhomes?
Yes. The same rules apply to motorhomes as well.

Please remain calm, form an emergency corridor in good time, follow the instructions of the emergency services, stay on the main road network and avoid taking alternative routes via side roads.
Should I let my hotel know if I’m running late?
Yes, that is advisable, especially if you’re arriving late or staying somewhere without a 24-hour reception.
The assembly will result in additional traffic disruption. Why was it approved?
The right of assembly is a fundamental right and, as such, a key principle enshrined in the Austrian Federal Constitution. No permission is required for assemblies. They may only be prohibited by the authorities by way of a formal decision in exceptional circumstances (for example, where safety is at risk). In accordance with existing case law on this matter, the assembly organised by a private individual was not prohibited.
That is why the A 13 Brenner motorway must be closed to all traffic. In order to maintain security of supply in the region, the B 182 Brenner road and the L 38 Ellbögener road will also be closed to through traffic during the same period.
Why are both carriageways of the A 13 Brenner motorway (northbound and southbound) closed?
The assembly organised/notified by a private individual will take place on both carriageways. For this reason, the A 13 Brenner motorway must also be closed in both directions.
